tl;dr: The popular investment scheme Titans4U turned bad, with the creator "Bad Bobby" stealing all of the company's assets. The theft was the ultimate conclusion of a plan that was set in motion years ago. Bobby began his investment career by running several smaller schemes to build up a positive public image. Over the years, he ran increasingly larger and more popular schemes and always returned on investments. Just over a year ago, his reputation-building efforts paid off as his good name secured the successful launch of the massive Titans4U investment fund. Bobby was able to win over 50% control of the company and fired the Board of Directors and steal all assets. Bobby claims the total value he has "cashed in" his reputation for is in excess of 850 billion ISK. To put that into perspective, 850 billion is enough ISK to buy about 2575 PLEX. That would keep an account active for over 214 years, and could be worth around $45,000 US dollars.

My comments: EVE Online is different from most MMOs is that activity like this is part of the MMO game and in-game scammers will not be punished with a ban. Harsh, harsh. I'm surprised I haven't heard of any pissed off players getting revenge over something like this. Maybe those people just felt they lost a colossal amount of time and just moved on instead of equating it to losing $45K!

brtev Yupz. And it's all part of the game! 09-12-2010
brtev I was thinking. Can you protect yourself if you have some contracts signed outside of the game to preempt anything in the game that you can't do this and that or you will be punished.

With $45K on the line, I figured some players would be smarter than that. This is no longer a game, and more like a way of life.

Here's a more detailed look at the plan.
