Back when vB was approaching 4.x, they started doing some really dick moves. Offering a presale discount of the new version sight unseen was one of them. Three devs left to make their own forum software, known as xenForo. It's currently in beta, but it looks VERY polished. Facebook integration is standard, and it tries to draw you in and create a social forum. You can like a post (like rep but public). receive trophies for achievements (first post, x likes, etc) and more. The inline mod tools are great, too.

And no, I'm not making a new forum.

xenforo is a ripoff of vB. vB went through some shit, they are still the leaders. dont support a knockoff group of dev's that left and started their own vB.

Kier, Mike, and Ashley are/were the heart and soul of vB. vB 4.x sucked balls for like 4 months after it came out, and is only now starting to get anywhere resembling a decent upgrade to vB. Add to that the lawsuit that Internet Brands slapped on them the day *before* xenForo was released - clearly an attempt to disrupt sales - and vB/IB has lost my respect.
